Ken’s Red Hardy Kiwi is considered one of the finest kiwaï varieties, producing small smooth-skinned fruit with striking red flesh and exceptionally sweet aromatic flavour.
The berries can be eaten whole without peeling and develop a rich fruity taste with excellent sweetness when fully ripe. The vine is vigorous, ornamental and highly productive under suitable growing conditions.
Ken’s Red is self-sterile and requires a compatible male pollinator such as ‘Weiki’ or a male hardy kiwi variety in order to produce fruit.
This hardy Actinidia variety is generally resistant and rarely requires treatments. Like other kiwaïs, it benefits from regular pruning to control vigour and encourage productive fruiting wood.
The vine can be trained onto pergolas, fences or trellis systems. Professional T-shaped training systems are particularly effective for simplifying pruning and improving fruit quality and harvest management.
Ken’s Red performs best in fertile moisture-retentive soils and requires regular watering during dry periods due to its vigorous growth and large foliage.
