Michelin is one of the most dependable French varieties for establishing a productive cider orchard. The tree is easy to grow, crops regularly and produces low-acid bittersweet juice with moderate tannin. We recommend it primarily as a reliable base for blends, where it provides volume and roundness. On its own, the cider can lack the aromatic personality of stronger varieties.

Cider apple varieties tend to remain in use primarily in their area of origin but Michelin was imported to England in the 19th century and as a result has become popular in English-speaking cider regions as well.
