Schrader’s Hawthorn (Crataegus schraderiana) is an attractive small deciduous tree appreciated for its rounded habit, grey-green deeply divided foliage and ornamental fruiting.
In late spring, it produces clusters of creamy white flowers that are attractive to pollinating insects. These are followed in early autumn by dark purple-red fruit, giving the tree strong seasonal interest.
This hardy hawthorn generally reaches around 4 to 8 metres in height and spread. It tolerates a wide range of soils, including chalk, clay, loam and sandy soils, provided they are not waterlogged.
Crataegus schraderiana is well suited to gardens, naturalistic planting and small landscape schemes where a compact ornamental tree with flowers, foliage and autumn fruit is desired.
