Mango Pawpaw Tree is a vigorous pawpaw variety appreciated for its orange, smooth and creamy flesh with a strongly tropical flavour. The fruit develops rich exotic aromas, often reminiscent of mango, banana and pineapple when fully ripe.
Mango ripens from early September, usually around one week after Shenandoah, making it an early to mid-season pawpaw variety. The fruit is best eaten fresh, when the flesh becomes soft and aromatic.
Pawpaw trees are very hardy once established, tolerating temperatures down to around -25°C, and this species is generally not affected by significant disease problems.
Mango is not self-fertile and requires another genetically different pawpaw variety nearby for cross-pollination. Any other pawpaw cultivar can act as a suitable pollinator.
Pawpaw trees can be delicate at planting. For best establishment, plant them once growth has started, keep the base weed-free and water during dry periods during the first years after planting. In cooler climates, keeping the soil surface bare and lightly cultivated in spring can help warm the ground and encourage growth.
Our Mango pawpaw trees are grafted onto seedling pawpaw rootstock and grown in the nursery for three years, with one year of graft growth.
