Coxford is an old hazelnut cultivar valued for both nut quality and its usefulness as a pollinator. Its elongated nuts have an exceptionally thin, easily cracked shell containing a firm, sweet and aromatic kernel. The vigorous shrub begins cropping relatively quickly. Like other hazels, it yields more reliably when accompanied by a compatible cultivar, with Merveille de Bollwiller forming a useful partnership.
