New York Muscat is one of the best alternatives to Muscat of Hamburg where fungal disease makes traditional Muscats difficult to grow. Its large blue-black berries are juicy, sweet and intensely aromatic. Vigorous and productive, the vine is well suited to pergolas. It ripens from late August into September and contains seeds, despite its excellent dessert-grape texture.

This variety has excellent resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew.

New York Muscat is a very vigorous grapevine and can be used for pergola training.
It originates from the United States and comes from a cross between Muscat of Hamburg and the American grape Ontario. This gives a grape tending towards the muscat character of Muscat of Hamburg, while keeping good disease resistance and earlier maturity.
The variety was obtained by the Cornell University experimental station in the United States. It is widely grown there, although it remains rare and difficult to find in France.
