Kilmarnock brings the attractive catkins of goat willow into a much smaller garden. Usually top-grafted, it forms a compact umbrella of strongly weeping branches and carries large grey catkins with yellow anthers before the leaves. Its height is determined by the grafting point, although the crown broadens over time. Moist soil and pruning after flowering help maintain a dense, balanced shape.

Kilmarnock Weeping Willow (Salix caprea) is a distinctive ornamental willow appreciated for its elegant weeping habit and early spring catkins.
From a young age, the branches become covered with attractive catkins that provide a valuable early nectar and pollen source for bees and other pollinating insects.
This compact weeping tree generally reaches around 3 metres in height and 2 metres in spread, depending on the graft height and pruning. Regular pruning can be used to keep the tree smaller, renew the young wood and maintain a lighter, fresher appearance.
Our Kilmarnock willows are supplied grafted on a stem, with the weeping head grafted at the top. We may prune the head before dispatch to make packing easier and to encourage good establishment after planting.
