Farmacista Cicilia Persimmon Tree is a distinctive dwarf kaki variety with a naturally weeping habit, making it particularly suitable for small gardens and ornamental fruit planting.
The fruit is medium-sized, fairly round, with good texture and sweet flavour when properly ripened. Farmacista Cicilia is an astringent persimmon, meaning the fruit must be eaten fully soft, dried, or treated after harvest to remove astringency.
The harvest is fairly early and progressive, generally from October to December depending on climate and growing conditions. This extended ripening period can be useful in cooler regions where full persimmon maturity is sometimes more challenging.
Astringency can also be removed using alcohol vapour or other post-harvest treatments, allowing the fruit to be eaten before it becomes completely soft. Drying is another good way to enjoy persimmons, especially when the fruit has not reached full maturity on the tree.
The tree is very hardy during winter dormancy and generally resistant in cultivation. As with all persimmons, late spring frosts can damage young developing buds, but the tree can usually restart from lower dormant or secondary buds.
For best fruit quality, plant Farmacista Cicilia in a warm, sunny and sheltered position. Regular watering during dry periods in the first years after planting and keeping the base weed-free will help the tree establish strongly.
Our Farmacista Cicilia persimmon trees are produced in different forms and on different rootstocks, including Diospyros lotus for broad soil adaptation and quick establishment, and Diospyros virginiana for improved tolerance to very dry or very wet soil conditions.
