Nikita’s Gift is a modern hybrid American / Asian persimmon, developed specifically to be productive in cooler climates with shorter summers.
The medium-sized fruits typically ripen in mid-October in northern France / Belgium and have a flavour more reminiscent of the American persimmon, but the scent of the Asian persimmon.
Nikita’s Gift is classified as an astringent persimmon, so the fruits need a period of ripening after harvest, to allow the flesh to soften and reach the perfect state of sweetness.
The bright green leaves turn an attractive dull red in autumn, giving the tree some ornamental appeal.
