G890 is one of the Geneva rootstocks we would favour for a robust apple tree used more like a traditional orchard tree, but cropping considerably earlier. It suits weak-growing cultivars and wider planting distances. Good anchorage and broad resistance are genuine strengths. The tree still becomes substantial and may produce some suckers, making it unsuitable for small trained forms.

Geneva G890 Apple Rootstock is a vigorous apple rootstock from the Geneva® breeding programme, producing trees generally comparable in vigour to M.7 or slightly more vigorous depending on growing conditions.
G.890 is particularly appreciated for its excellent anchorage, high productivity and strong resistance to fire blight, Phytophthora root rot and woolly apple aphid. It also performs very well in replant situations and produces robust, well-balanced trees.
Compared with dwarfing rootstocks such as M.9 or G.11, G.890 produces a significantly larger and more vigorous tree, making it suitable for lower-density orchards, poor soils or situations where additional vigour is required.
This rootstock is considered one of the most promising vigorous Geneva® rootstocks for modern resilient orchard systems.
