PI 80 Supporter® 4 Apple Rootstock is a semi-dwarf apple rootstock developed at Dresden-Pillnitz in Germany from a cross between M.9 and M.4. It produces trees with vigour generally comparable to M.26, while offering improved productivity and better propagation performance.
PI 80 is appreciated for its excellent compatibility with many apple cultivars, good anchorage and reliable cropping efficiency. Compared with M.9, it produces a somewhat larger and stronger tree, making it suitable for intensive and semi-intensive orchard systems.
This rootstock also shows good winter hardiness and tolerance to woolly apple aphid and crown gall. It is often considered an interesting alternative to M.26, particularly in situations where greater adaptability and stronger rooting are desired.
PI 80 Supporter® 4 remains valued by growers looking for a productive semi-dwarf rootstock combining balanced vigour, orchard efficiency and reliable tree structure.
