Melitopolski Cherny is a hybrid cherry plum / apricot with a dark red skin which turns almost black when fully ripe. These hybrids are often called Black Apricots.
Its shape resembles an apricot, and the bright orange flesh and flavour are also more reminscent of an apricot than a plum.
The fruits ripen in mid-July and are can be eaten fresh or used for cooking. The stone is semi-clinging.
Melitopolski Cherny is a good choice if you want to grow apricots but have a climate which is too cold in winter or spring.
