Bittenfelder is intended for full-sized orchard trees planted for the long term. This seedling rootstock produces a strong, deeply rooted apple tree that is generally self-supporting once established and well suited to standards and half-standards. The trade-offs are slower bearing, considerable mature size and slightly more variation between individual trees than with a clonal rootstock.

Bittenfelder is a cold-hardy fully vigorous standard rootstock for apple trees, compatible with all apple varieties.
Bittenfelder produces a mature tree with a height 5m – 6m or more. Fruit production should start at the age of 4-5 years. No staking is required once the tree is established.
Trees grafted on Bittenfelder should be planted 5m – 7m apart.
