Holm Oak (Quercus ilex) is a beautiful evergreen oak species appreciated for its dense rounded crown, dark leathery foliage and excellent resistance to dry conditions.
Native to the Mediterranean region, it is particularly well suited to sunny, well-drained sites and tolerates heat, wind, drought and calcareous soils once established. Its evergreen foliage provides year-round structure and makes it useful for hedges, windbreaks, screening or specimen planting.
Quercus ilex can eventually form a large tree, often reaching 10 to 20 metres depending on soil and climate, but it also tolerates pruning well and can be managed as a dense evergreen hedge or shaped tree.
Holm Oak is a long-lived and robust species, ideal for naturalistic gardens, dry landscapes and resilient planting schemes in temperate to Mediterranean climates.
