Dutch Giant is the cultivar to choose when the aim is to reduce preparation work and obtain plenty of flesh from each fruit. Its exceptionally large medlars are carried on a vigorous, productive and generally easy-growing tree. Their flavour is mild and characteristically medlar-like after bletting, although sometimes less concentrated than Nottingham. We would favour it for purées, jellies and other preserves.

Flanders Giant, also known as Large Dutch is a medlar originating from the Low Countries. Fruit size is slightly larger than the traditional English medlars – and can be quite a bit larger in warmer climates.
Large Dutch is productive and easy to grow.
