Kirchensaller is a vigorous seedling pear rootstock intended for traditional standards and large free-standing trees. Hardy, strongly anchored and broadly compatible with pear cultivars, it performs on sites where quince rootstocks may struggle. Mature trees commonly exceed six metres. Cropping begins later than on clonal or quince rootstocks, and natural seedling variation means that final vigour is not perfectly uniform.

Dispatch generally takes place from late November to February, depending on the weather and the progress of lifting the trees.
Kirchensaller is a vigorous clonal seedling rootstock of Pyrus communis, compatible with all European pears and Perry pears, and is the best choice if you want to plant a traditional pear orchard. Kirchensaller produces a standard pear tree with a mature height of 6m or more, and no staking is required.
Trees grafted on Kirchensaller should be planted 5m – 7m apart.
Pear trees on Kirchensaller have the potential to be very long-lived, i.e. over 100 years in the right conditions. If you want to “plant pears for your heirs” this is the rootstock you need!
