Flying Dragon is a dwarfing disease-resistant citrus rootstock of the species Citrus trifoliata (often known as Poncirus trifoliata) and naturally grows as a small spreading bush of around 2m – 4m. It is compatible with all citrus species, and particularly suitable for sweet orange cultivars.
Flying Dragon is a “small-flowered” form of Citrus trifoliata and citrus trees grafted on Flying Dragon rootstock typically reach only about 2.5m mature height, compared with a most orange or grapefruit species which will reach up to 6m on their own roots. It is the most dwarfing citrus rootstock currently available.
Flying Dragon rootstock is very cold-hardy, down to -20C, and also imparts some additional cold-hardiness to the scion variety.
It is tolerant of damp soils over winter.
These rootstocks are bio-certified, and raised from seed. The rootstocks are naturally thorny, but this does not affect the scion variety.
