Availability and delivery of larger fruit trees
Most of our fruit trees are shipped as young bare-root trees, such as maiden trees and young plants. These trees are well suited to parcel delivery and can be sent by DPD to many European countries.
This is the most practical and economical way to ship fruit trees across Europe. Young trees travel well, are easier to pack securely, and usually establish very quickly after planting.
Why larger fruit trees require special delivery
Larger and older trees, especially from half-standard size upwards, cannot be shipped in standard DPD parcels. DPD parcels are limited in length, usually around 1.5 m, which is not enough for taller fruit trees with a developed stem and crown.
For these larger trees, we use a different transport solution. The tree must be packed in a much larger and stronger box, around 3 metres long, to protect the stem, branches and root system during transport.
Delivery of half-standard and larger fruit trees
Half-standard and larger fruit trees are shipped with Géodis or a similar specialist carrier. This allows us to deliver trees that are too large for standard parcel delivery.
This delivery method is more expensive than a DPD parcel, because it requires:
- a much larger box, around 3 metres long;
- stronger packaging to protect the tree;
- special handling by the carrier;
- more space during transport;
- a more careful logistics process.
This is a premium delivery solution, and it is still quite rare among nurseries shipping larger fruit trees across Europe.
Delivery price shown on the website
The delivery cost for half-standard and larger fruit trees is displayed directly on the website during checkout. You do not need to ask for a separate quote for standard destinations covered by our delivery system.
When your order contains larger trees that cannot be shipped by DPD, the website automatically applies the appropriate large-tree delivery method.
The final delivery price depends on the destination country and the size of the order. It reflects the cost of specialised transport and large protective packaging.
Which tree sizes can be shipped by DPD?
Young bare-root trees, maiden trees and small plants can usually be shipped by DPD, depending on the product and destination.
These are the most economical trees to deliver and are often the best choice for customers looking for a good balance between price, transport cost and quick establishment after planting.
Which tree sizes require larger transport?
From half-standard size upwards, trees generally require special transport. These trees are taller, bulkier and more difficult to protect in standard parcel networks.
They are therefore packed separately in large, strong packaging and shipped with a carrier suitable for oversized parcels.
Is it worth ordering a larger fruit tree?
A larger fruit tree can give an immediate visual effect in a garden or orchard. It can also be useful when a higher trunk is needed, for example for mowing access, grazing areas, traditional orchard forms or a more established appearance from the start.
However, younger trees are easier and cheaper to ship. They also establish quickly when planted in good conditions. For many customers, a young bare-root tree remains the best balance between price, delivery cost and long-term growth.
