Italian Maple (Acer opalus) is a beautiful Mediterranean maple species appreciated for its rounded foliage, natural elegance and abundant early spring flowering.
In March, the tree produces a generous flowering that is highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, providing an important nectar resource at the beginning of the season.
This rare maple is well adapted to dry and sunny conditions once established, making it an interesting choice for resilient planting schemes, naturalistic gardens and warm temperate climates.
Acer opalus can eventually reach around 15 metres in height, but it can also be managed by pruning, pollarding or traditional “têtard” training to maintain a more moderate size.
Our Italian Maple plants are produced in several sizes, from young plants to more formed nursery trees, depending on current stock.
