Beurré Lebrun is a pear we would select for its exceptionally fine, juicy flesh with almost no noticeable grit. Its lightly musky aroma gives it more personality than a merely sweet pear. The tree is hardy, fertile and only slightly susceptible to scab. Harvest timing is the main difficulty, as fruit can begin breaking down internally soon after the skin turns yellow.

This variety was raised in the 1850s by Mr Guenoit, a nurseryman from Troyes in eastern France. It is a popular French garden variety, and also known as Le Brun.
