Sucrée de Montluçon is an autumn pear for anyone who enjoys distinctly sweet fruit. Its fairly fine, juicy, sweet and aromatic flesh is accompanied by an attractive red blush on the sunny side. The vigorous tree is a useful pollinator and shows very little susceptibility to pear scab. We value it more for reliability and sweetness than for an exceptionally melting texture.

Description

As the name suggests, Sucree de Montlucon is an exceptionally sweet dessert pear.

The pears have a golden green colour, readily turning deep red where the sun catches the skin. It often has patches of russet. They ripen in late October and can be kept in a fridge for 2-3 months.

Sucree de Montlucon was discovered by Monsieur Rochet of Montlucon in 1812. It was grown commercially in central France, and remains popular with amateur growers.
