Triomphe de Vienne was discovered in the 1880s as a chance seedling growing near the town of Vienne which is just outside the city of Lyon in south-east France.
Nevertheless it is very much in the tradition of Belgian and French pears of the early 19th century. It has the characteristic juicy melting sweet flesh, with a butter-like texture - known as "beurre" among pear enthusiasts. It is arguably one of the best-looking of pears too.
The pears ripen at the end of August / early September, and can be stored in a fridge for a few weeks.

If you do not hear from us by March you can contact us to pre-order for next autumn.
Triomphe de Vienne has quite a wide climate range and is one of the best French pears for more northern European climates.
Triomphe de Vienne is a weak-growing tree which does best on more vigorous rootstocks. However it is not compatible with Quince rootstocks.
