Pyrodwarf is a semi-vigorous cold-hardy rootstock, compatible with all European pears and Perry pears, and some Asian pears. It produces a mature tree with a height between 4m - 5m, and fruit production should start at the age of 2-4 years.
No staking is required once the tree is established.
Trees grafted on Pyrodwarf can be grown as bushes or half-standards and should be planted 4m - 5m apart.
This is also a good rootstock for grafting large fan and espalier pear trees - allow a spread of up to 4m.
If you are planting a mixed pear and apple orchard it is useful to know that the Pyrodwarf rootstock will produce a tree that is roughly equivalent to the apple trees on the MM111 rootstock.
Rootstocks are usually 8-10mm grade, the best size for grafting. Please order by January for delivery in February - March. If you wish to order a large number of rootstocks please contact us.
