Count Althann's Gage

(Count Althan's Gage, Reine Claude Conducta)
Count Althann's Gage is listed in the RHS Plants for Pollinators

Count Althan's gage is an unusual and attractive red gage, often known by its alternative name Reine Claude Conducta.

The flavor is excellent, and it is widely regarded as one of the best-flavored of all gages.

It stands apart from other gages in several respects - the fruits are larger, and while most gages are green or yellow, Count Althann's gage is an attractive dusky red pink color. However like most gages cropping tends to be light.

If you find some gages too sweet and sugary, then Count Althan's is worth considering. The flavor is by no means sharp, rather it has a rich sweetness, more reminscent of a high quality plum than a gage.

Growing and Training

Count Althan's gage is easy to grow but is not a heavy cropper. However this is not necessarily a bad thing because the flavor is more concentrated as a result.
