Count Althan's gage is an unusual and attractive red gage, often known by its alternative name Reine Claude Conducta.
It is widely regarded as one of the best-flavoured of all gages. It has a rich tangy sweetness, more reminscent of a high quality plum than a gage.
It stands apart from other gages in several respects - the fruits are larger, and while most gages are green or yellow, Count Althann's gage is an attractive dusky red pink color.
Next deliveries: December 2023 - February 2024.

Count Althan's gage is easy to grow but is not a heavy cropper. However this is not necessarily a bad thing because the flavours are more concentrated as a result.
Count Althan's gage was raised by the gardener of Count Althan, in the 1850s in Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic. Its pedigree is unknown, but it quickly became popular in Europe, and by the 1860s was being sold in England by the famous Rivers nursery.
It is also known as Reine Claude Conducta.
